SHAMELESS MUGABE!

Recently, the presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Tanzania. Mr Jakaya Kikwete who served for 10 years as Tanzania's foreign minister, after retiring from the military with the rank of lieutenant-colonel was duely elected as the new President.
That, is not the interesting news! The good news is, the former president, Mr Benjamin Mkapa stepped down after two terms in office. This is an exemplary gesture going by the crude mentality of the sit-tight attitude of many African leaders. Once again, another leader has chosen the part of honour rather than greed and disgrace. Benjamin Mkapa decided to follow the foot-steps of one the worlds' greatest men- Nelson Mandela- who after one term in office as the first elected Black President of South Africa, relinquished power.
But the irony of the whole episode of election in Tanzania is that the grand father of 'shameless- sit-tight- leaders' in Africa - Robert Mugabe, attended the inaugural speech ceremony of Mr Jakaya Kikwete.
Sometimes, I wonder or imagine what would have happened, if a man like Benjamin Mkapa who just relinquished power had told Robert Mugabe bluntly to try and emulate him - by stepping down in Zimbabwe. Or what would have happened if he(Robert Mugabe) were told he was not welcomed at the inaugural ceremony. Wouldn't that be a very good way of telling him that the rest of world in general, and Africans in particular are not happy with him and his misrule in Zimbabwe?
Is Mr Olusegun Obasanjo aware of the situation in Tanzania. If he is not aware, those who are in position to let him know should do so now. Because I fear for his fate in this third term rumour or insinuations milling around.
It will be better to retire to Ota and live happily ever after than died in a foreign land of either Prostrate Cancer(Mobutu Seseko) or any other terminal illness in Saudi Arabia(Idi Amin)... or live in permanent exile like Charles Taylor.
